Here’s a look at her journey:
I trained with Mohua for six months at Velocity Sports Medicine in Oakville. A few months before starting with her as my personal trainer, I lost my balance and broke my left wrist. Prior to that, I had suffered a serious hip injury and was dealing with femoral neuropathy in my legs.
During my time with Mohua, I discovered how to walk properly. I learned to engage my entire foot, strengthening the muscles without relying on my heels. I stopped crossing my left foot over my right, and my toes finally straightened out, looking like toes should. Best of all, I was able to put away the cross-country ski pole I had been using for balance.
Mohua never gave up on me, and in turn, I didn’t give up on myself. Her support and encouragement have been invaluable. I remember the time she was thrilled when I held a wall sit for 60 seconds, surpassing my best of 40 seconds!
In my 6 months with Mohua, I feel more energized and confident. My balance has improved and so has my core and strength. Oh, by the way, I am 85 years old (and will be 86 next week). You are never too old and even at this age there will always be improvement. My thanks to you Mohua, you have changed my life and given me confidence.
One Final Note
Extensive research over the last twenty years has revealed that adding strength training to your fitness regimen can contribute to healthier aging. The natural loss of muscle mass in older adults can negatively affect overall health and well-being, but consistent strength exercises can improve strength, balance, and muscle function, enabling older individuals to lead more active and fulfilling lives. Judy is a true example of this transformative power of strength training. Her story highlights how strength training not only combats the effects of aging but also empowers individuals to embrace life with enthusiasm and resilience. Judy you are a true inspiration to all of us!
